Our cycling adventure starts in Siem Reap. We’ll immerse ourselves in the temples of Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers a completely guided bike tour. Learn about the interesting history of these ancient temples and visit less touristy temples.
Continue beyond the main temple complex to Banteay Srei and Kbal Spean. We also spend the day cycling from temple to temple in Sambor Prey Kuk, one of Cambodia’s oldest temple complexes. Then we move to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital city, which has become recognized as the “Pearl of Asia”. We’ll cycle to Oudong through the countryside of Cambodia, visiting villages and getting a sense of local life away from the city’s sights and sounds. Then it’s off to Phnom Oudong’s hills to see a variety of ancient Khmer-style chedis and stupas.
The cycling component has been specifically developed for recreational cyclists, averaging around 45 km per day on flat and easy terrain.

Today’s ride will begin early with a trip up to the Angkor jungle trails. We start to avoid the inevitable crowds drawn to the wonders of the Angkor complex. The various temples are spread over a wide area and are linked by shady avenues; meandering our way between them by bike gives us a unique perspective.
Our visit includes Angkor Wat temple, the largest religious monument ever built, and a wander through the city’s mystical courtyards and jungle-covered temples, the best-known and most breathtaking of all the sights and a highlight of any visit to Angkor. Spend time exploring the ruins of Angkor Wat, the magnificent 12th-century capital of the Khmer Empire, with our expert guide.
Afterward, we cycle to the jungle-covered Ta Prohm, with the amazing roots of the Fromagier trees clinging to the ancient stones. Next, visit Preah Khan’s majestic temple complex, which is surrounded by a moat, and Angkor Thom, with the famous Bayon temple, which has 37 towers topped with the four faces of the king. After our visits to these magnificent temples, we cycle back to Siem Reap.

Today, we cycle outside the main Angkor complex to the outlying temple of Banteay Srei, 35 km from Siem Reap town. Our route takes us past paddy fields, and through pretty villages. Banteay Srei was built in the 10th century and contains some of the finest examples of Khmer sculpture. Although much smaller than the later temples, here all of the buildings are covered in exquisite carvings.
After exploring this iconic temple, we’ll enjoy our lunch at the foot of the mountain before taking a short transfer to Kbal Span. Then trek uphill along the jungle trail for 3 km to the waterfall and the River of Thousand Lingas. You can see the carvings on the riverbed and waterfall and return to Siem Reap by transfer.

This morning, we embark on the Siem Reap backroads to the former Angkor city of Roulous Group. The temple was the center of Khmer civilization and was built by the Angkorian king in the 8th century. We explore the three main temples here: Lolei, Preah Ko, and Bakong. We’ll eat lunch at a local house before we continue another 12 km to Tonle Sap lake to take a short cruise to Kampong Phluk to see the floating villages, where you have an opportunity to learn about life on the water. Tonle Sap Lake is the largest lake in Southeast Asia and offers a unique way of life for those living on Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake, which is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
After all the crawling, we will catch the sunset on the lake with some snacks and cold beverages onboard. You will return to the city by private vehicle.

We start the day with a 2-hour drive to Kampong Thom, where we hop on our bikes and ride through the ancient temple site of Sambor Prey Kuk. This temple was the capital during the Chenla period of the early 7th century. Today, the forests of the area are dotted with more than 100 temples, some of the oldest in the country. We finish cycling at this ancient temple, which we spend time exploring on foot, before continuing along the road in our van for about 3 hours to Phnom Penh.

Today, we escape from the hustle and bustle and cycle through the rice paddies and small village communities around the town of Udong. We’ll stop along the way, and you’ll learn a little about the lives of the people who call this area home and enjoy some delicious local snacks. We’ll make our way to Udong Mountain, where we’ll stop to enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch before heading to the top of the mountain, and the temple that is located there. This towering temple is perched on Phnom Udon, a mountain that was the capital of Cambodia for around 200 years until it was moved to what is now Phnom Penh. After taking some time to explore, we return to Phnom Penh by vehicle.

The terrain is flat and we cycle on a mixture of tarmac roads and tracks. We mainly follow quiet backroads and sometimes you have to travel on busier roads when leaving the city. A support vehicle accompanies the rides throughout the trip. We have graded the route as easy.
Basic spares and tools are carried by the tour guide and on the support vehicle. However, we cannot guarantee to have spares for every conceivable problem. Carrying a basic tool kit, a spare tube and a pump while riding is recommended. We do provide a helmet for every cyclist, but it is also imperative that you bring your own helmet and wear it at all times while cycling.
Wearing a helmet is required on all our biking adventures and is non negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you will not be allowed to cycle. Your tour leader is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree you must be responsible for your own safety while riding. It is therefore compulsory that you take out travel insurance that will cover you for a mountain biking tour.
Cambodia has two distinct seasons – wet and dry. Bear in mind that the area is tropical with high humidity. Lightweight clothing is needed all year round. Other additions that you may find useful are a swimming costume, cycle gloves, cycling shorts/trousers and quick drying cycle tops. Please note for the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh and Angkor Wat temple shorts are not permitted. Shoulders and knees must be covered and sarongs are not allowed.
On most Ride & Rad trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip–please contact one of our Tour Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price.
